Couples who go on killing sprees and don’t stop until they are caught

Jerad and Amanda Miller died together this week after going on a killing spree that left three dead in Las Vegas, including two police officers.

Those who have seen CCTV footage of them shooting people dead say it shows “how ruthless and cold blooded” they were.

For many, the idea that a couple, or family members could be behind such a crime wave is still surprising, but history is full of examples of families going on rampages together.

It is usually a partner or lover who brings in an end to the carnage after they observe some change in their loved one and alert police to their suspicions.

But if that check isn’t in place, as these examples show, sometimes their evil ways can go undetected for years.

FRED AND ROSEMARY WEST

 

This couple began killing in the late 1960s and continued through until 1987. There were at least 12 victims who were tortured and raped — including members of their own family.

Rosemary West didn’t take part in all of the killings. It’s thought Fred killed at least two people before he met her and it was then their collaboration began.

They were finally arrested in 1994 after police obtained a search warrant and dug up the garden, locating nine sets of bones.

Fred West killed himself in jail before his trial began, and Rosemary was sentenced to life in jail.

JAMES DAVEGGIO AND MICHELLE MICHAUD

 

You sometimes wonder where thriller writers get their ideas from. But this is an example of truth being way stranger than fiction.

Daveggio and Michaud fitted their camper van with hooks and ropes to restrain victims before kidnapping 22-year-old Vanessa Lei Samson in San Francisco.

They abused and tortured the student for over 24 hours before strangling her and leaving her body by a roadside.

They called their abductions “adventures” and “hunting trips” and had previously used the same van they tormented Vanessa Samson in to commit rape.

DANIEL AND MANUELA RUDA

 

Lesser known than some of the other killer couples, and with less of a body count, but still just as horrifying.

The self-styled Satanists lured a colleague to their apartment in Germany where they attacked him with a hammer and stabbed him 33 times.

But it didn’t end there. The couple then drank his blood and had sex next to his body. They were arrested a week later.

Manuela outraged the public when she insisted it was not murder, they were just acting on orders from Satan.

It emerged during the court case Daniel met his wife after posting an advert on a dating website that said: “Vampire seeks princess of darkness that hates everyone and everything.”

In 2002 he was jailed for 15 years while his wife was sentenced to 13 years.

MYRA HINDLEY AND IAN BRADY

 

This couple became the most hated people in Britain and even years later their crimes are considered among the worst ever committed.

Brady killed five children — aged between 10 and 17 — in the 1960s and buried them in shallow graves in Saddleworth Moor. Hindley was his accomplice. Some of the victims had been sexually assaulted before they were killed.

Brady later admitted other murders but no bodies were ever found, even though police believe he was behind the disappearance of other children in the area.
